Why now
eIDAS 2.0 is the EU's 2024 update to its digital identity law. It puts two dates in the calendar, and the second one reaches into the private sector.
Banking, telecoms, large online platforms, and services using strong customer authentication, including parts of healthcare. If you are in one of those, acceptance is a duty with a date on it rather than a project you can defer.
The W3C Verifiable Credentials Data Model and DID Core are the same standards the EUDI Wallet architecture is built on. Building to them is not a bet on which way the rules go.
Member-state readiness is uneven. The EU-wide system is not live today, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.
