With its digital healthcare system and accurate CPR register, Denmark could become a mecca for international health research. But strict GDPR regulations and unclear healthcare legislation have hampered innovation until now. Now, new Danish encryption and integration software will make it possible to analyze health data across sources - without accessing patient data.

Access to health data is essential for developing new treatments and medicines, but strict privacy regulations and fragmented data systems often make it difficult to harness its full potential. Two companies, Partisia and Journl, are set to change that.

Together they have created a secure and efficient way to share and analyze data without compromising citizen privacy. This is based on Partisia's advanced Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) and Journl's expertise in health data integration, standardization and automation.

We are at a time where data can make a crucial difference to health research and patient care, but at the same time it is essential that we protect the individual's right to privacy. The challenge is to find a balance where we both ensure the consent of citizens and utilize the full potential of the data for the benefit of both the patient and society
Mark Medum Bundgaard Chief Product Officer at Partisia

The Aarhus-based tech company Partisia, which employs around 70 people, sees huge potential in the market. The company has therefore maximized its efforts to bring the technology to the entire healthcare sector, where it can help public actors use data securely and responsibly.

Our solution enables regions, municipalities, healthcare, pharma and life science companies to collect and analyze data from multiple sources - quickly, securely and GDPR compliant

Health data research without an intermediary

Health data research is not new, but the traditional method often involves an intermediary collecting, analyzing and disseminating data. It's expensive, slow and doesn't give businesses and researchers direct access to the knowledge they need.

Combining data from different sources for product development and clinical research in healthcare is not new, but what makes our solution unique is that we provide the ability to perform analysis faster, cheaper and with a higher level of security than what is used today
Jacob Høy Berthelsen Chief Operating Officer at Journl

The new technology makes pharmaceutical development more efficient from the first lab trials to post-approval. By combining patient data, genetic analysis and more, researchers can adjust and conduct clinical trials faster. Important trade secrets are protected as IP critical data can be shared securely. The outcome is shorter development time, more precise treatments and better insight into long-term effects.

Secure data analysis without compromising privacy

With Partisia's technology, sensitive data can be analyzed securely and efficiently - without compromising citizens' privacy.

The process begins with Journl's integration technology harmonizing data from different sources for analysis. Then, Partisia's Decentralized Identity (DID) technology can ensure full transparency and control over data usage - either with or without consent, depending on the type of data and applicable regulations.

Partisia's Multi-Party Computation (MPC) then comes into effect - a technology that enables data processing without revealing the underlying information. During the process, all important events are stored in Partisia's private blockchain to ensure auditing, transparency and regulatory compliance.
